The ITMB Who We R Youth Forum consists of young Irish Travellers aged between 10-16 from London. The group was put together when it was considered there was not enough out there for young Irish Travellers, by one of the Who We R members.
With the discrimination they faced daily, providing a safe environment for young Travellers to come and talk about their experiences and how they could tackle such prejudice, was worthwhile. A major issue is racism across all the Traveller community. Within the young people a lot of this seems to be coming from the schools.
Events in schools since the group has Formed has included members of the Who We R Youth Forum Participating in assemblies, talking about their heritage.
When started, some members stated not even their friends knew they were Irish Travellers, so this is a great achievement.
The group gives young Irish Travellers the confidence and determination to stand up for who they are.
Irish Traveller Movement is a national organisation which works with Irish Travellers, raising their profile and helping them to influence policy.
