The ITMB is currently working towards building and /or strengthening  the capacity of individuals, groups and networks to participate in UK-wide decision making processes at local, regional and national levels through the provision and facilitation of appropriate and user friendly training and information as well supporting self advocacy.

As part of this programme of work the ITMB has established an Advisory Group which is made up entirely of Travellers with wide regional representation to oversee and govern all of our policy and capacity building initiatives.
..
ITMB has also developed and established a number of Traveller inter agency forums in London to further this work.
..
In April 2005 the Gypsy and Traveller Capacity Building Project was established to:

•    Carrying out work primarily in the North of England in the first instance, monitoring the processes involved in group development/capacity building.
•    Disseminating observations from pilot work to assist in the development of further grant applications/expansion for the project/other similar initiatives.
•    Assist Gypsy/Traveller groups in accessing funds.

..

The project received funding to recruit a Capacity Development Worker to coordinate the project. The project has been line managed by the Irish Traveller Movement (ITMB).

Next Phase of the Project

Key Outputs

•    The project will identify lessons learnt from the pilot project. This will be of assistance in identifying the future training and capacity building needs of Gypsy and Traveller groups.

•    The project will continue to offer training to small Gypsy and Traveller groups within the pilot study area and across the UK through cluster groups.
